Biodiversity and Regeneration

The success of a garden is evidenced when the entire biome begins to reestablish itself. In the city, the first to arrive are the birds and insects. Flowers are essential for attracting butterflies and bees, which play a crucial role in pollinating and propagating plants. It is very rich and precious to observe these small members of the garden, who bring life and balance to the urban ecosystem.

Entrance Garden

The challenge of this garden was to reestablish a diversity of native plants in an environment with high sunlight, exchanging the arid look of Mexico for the richness and diversity of the Atlantic Forest.

The client's main request for the outdoor gardens was the removal of the giant Blue Agave, whose thorns were advancing over the sidewalk and hurting pedestrians. Also at the resident's request, we added more palm trees at the entrance, especially species such as Juçara, native to the Atlantic Forest, which are at risk of extinction. This little Brazilian is very special, as in addition to being the raw material for delicious açaí, its fruits are an excellent meal for large birds such as toucans and parrots.

To fill the walls and bring a touch of color and exoticism, we used four species of Heliconias: stricta, psittacorum, golden red and episcopalis, the latter also threatened with extinction. These plants attract pollinators and beautiful hummingbirds. Our beloved Guaimbê was also used to fill the middle part of the garden.

As lining, we used the native Onze-horas and Jambu, charming with their delicate flowers, creating a vibrant and welcoming environment.

Soil Improvement and Irrigation: We started the garden by pruning the current plants and using the waste for composting, improving the quality of the soil, which was dry and poor in nutrients. At the same time, we installed an irrigation system to ensure constant hydration. The initial suggestion would be a micro lake, however the client did not feel confident with this option, but it would be the best in terms of sustainability and saving natural resources.

Indoor Gardens

In the indoor area, the arid feeling was also present in the pots planted with cacti and succulents. We replaced these species with more voluminous plants suitable for the location.

In addition, we complemented the empty pots in the vertical garden and implemented an automatic irrigation system to facilitate maintenance.

Pool Roof

Originally, we planned to transplant the Blue Agaves taken from the garden to the pool roof. However, due to the high cost of lifting, we chose to replace the initial project with climbing plants and vines native to Brazil.

Back Garden

In the back garden, we inserted three fruit trees: Pitangueira, Aceroleira and Jabuticabeira, among many other native and exotic ornamental species. Additionally, we created a small area of herbs and unconventional edible plants. Banana trees, Taioba, Peixinho, Cavalinha, Cidreira, Basil and Rosemary coexist harmoniously with other plants, transforming this garden into a delicious oasis in the middle of the city.

Looking forward to these girls growing up <3

Under Development: This garden is still forming and will be photographed when some species gain more strength next spring and summer. Working with gardens means understanding the timing of each plant and respecting each season.
